LATEST NEWS

Dinas Powis win the Carruthers shield for the first time since 1986 when they beat Aberystwyth, although they were runners/up in 2000 against Brynhyfryd.

In the semi-final they over powered Porthcawl by 40 shots 98-58 with a powerful display winning on all rinks, while their opponents Ferndale had a tough encounter against last years winners Tenby, which went down to the last end winning 1-75, so setting up an intriguing final.

The final was disappointing in the end although it was a contest up to 10 ends with only 4 shots between the teams, but then the Dinas Powis team upped their game and made sure the coveted title was theirs, in the intermittent rain on Llandrindod's International greens by powering away to win on 3 rinks with one draw and winning by 35 shots overall.

President Noel Tippet congratulated Dinas Powis on their win before presenting prizes to both semi-finalists and losing finalists and then the Carruthers shield to the captain of a jubilant club who proved to be dominant side this year, He also thanked the WBA officers, the Llandrindod club's staff and members, the umpires and markers and green keeper Steve Smith for their essential and valuable work throughout a week of wonderful bowls.
